Problem

What are the steps required to set up and use background visit processing in RecTrac? Are there any special workstation requirements for this computer to handle a 2nd session of RecTrac?

Solution

Background Visit Processing is a popular feature that allows you to use one RecTrac client workstation to perform two separate tasks simultaneously: process visits (record ID swipes) and perform other RecTrac functions, such as registrations, sales and reporting. Utilizing Background Visit Processing not only saves you physical counter space, but it can also help you to save money as well, since only one client workstation is required.

To run Background Visit Processing in RecTrac 10.2d and later, the following requirements must be met. See the attached Topic Document for more information and complete printable instructions for setting up Background Visit Processing.

To Run Background Visit Processing in RecTrac 10.2d and later:
1 Create a new User ID specifically for the second session (i.e. SWIPEUSER)
2 You must have a serial barcode or magnetic swipe reader. Regular USB readers are not sufficient for this feature to work.
3 Link an input device for the barcode or magnetic swipe reader to the new User ID at the User Level of device hierarchy.
4 The RecTrac workstation on which you will run Background Visit Processing must be configured to allow at least two (2) concurrent sessions.
5 Always log into the first session using the User ID created for background visit processing.
6 (Optional) For ease of operation, VSI recommends a dual monitor set up, one monitor for each session.
